Anne Francis

Senior Law Clerk

Who she is

It’s her eclectic spirit, authenticity and unique sense of humour that colleagues appreciate about Anne. “I come from Ireland where we love to laugh and have fun, and we also have a deadly sarcastic sense of humour,” she says. “Not everybody here understands it, so I try to be careful about what I say. But really, you just have to know where I’m coming from.”

Just as valuable is her experience and knowledge in all aspects of corporate law and transactional matters. With over 15 years of experience as a law clerk and executive assistant and a track record of strong performance in high-pressure environments, Anne skillfully manages everything from incorporations and maintaining corporate minute books to conducting due diligence and working on a range of transactional matters.

“I love what I do,” Anne says. “I love that from nothing this whole package of documents come together and, I like to make sure it’s nicely tied with a bow. It’s exciting to see the development of it.”

Anne is constantly thinking about how she can learn from her past work to make it more efficient the next time around. “Always remember that hindsight is the best insight to foresight,” she says citing the Irish proverb.

When not rushing to meet deadlines at work, Anne is passionate about playing tennis, writing poetry and acrylic painting.

How she got here

Raised in Belfast, Anne Francis came to Canada in 1979 working as a props designer. After years running her design company, she took up a job working in medical office administration at Credit Valley Hospital. Ten years later and after completing a law clerk degree at Humber College, she was hired in 2005 as an executive assistant and law clerk supporting in-house lawyers at Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp., where she remained for 15 years. In 2021, Anne joined Simplex Legal as Senior Law Clerk.
